How to Introduce Mindfulness Effectively

Everyone of all ages can benefit from meditation because you learn to have a gentle, accepting attitude to the present moment. By incorporating mindfulness in your daily lives, you can regulate your emotions, and communicate more thoughtfully and effectively.

The impacts of having meditation practice are tremendous because your brains and bodies are constantly developing! Many people may be curious to learn how to build an effective practice in order to reap the benefits of mindfulness. Therefore, you can introduce mindfulness to others effectively by sharing these tips:

  • Keep it simple: When you teach anything to others, they will grasp it much more when it is simple. For example, one simple explanation about mindfulness is that it is “noticing thoughts, feeling what the body is going through, and being present in the right now”.
  • Create a ritual: When a ritual for the person is created early in their life, it becomes much more ingrained as part of their foundation, like brushing teeth. Therefore, encourage the other person to establish a mindful ritual based on the best time for the person, such as bedtime. This will also set up the expectations for the person to prepare themselves as the ritual time approaches.
  • Practice with the person: The person usually observes what you do, and will imitate it. Therefore, if you practice meditation with the person, they will feel like they are not alone and will most likely continue the mindful activities.
  • Incorporate mindful activities throughout the day: By having several small mindful moments throughout the day, the person will be more aware of their surroundings. For example, ask the person to savor the food during dinner time or listen to the environment as the person goes for their daily walk. 
  • Remind the benefitsAlways take a moment to remind the person of all the benefits of mindfulness on their mind and body. This will then motivate them to work hard in building a consistent meditation practice.
